Nouakchott
Nouakchott (administrative capital) was found in 1958, only two years before the independence. At that time, it was programmed to host less than 20,000 people. Now the city is a melting pot of cultures and home to almost 1/3 of Mauritanian population. This quick move is due to the recurrent draughts in the Sahara in the last 30 years , that has forced young people , families and small communities to leave their traditional ways of living in provinces to come and dwell in big cities , this phenomena has been known by “Rural Exodus.
Though a very young city, Nouakchott has a lot of charm, it is too a very peaceful and friendly city.
The Ladies Commercial Center and the Trade Fair of Nouakchott are interesting places worth to be visited.
In Nouakchott surroundings, there is a possibility to ride camel and taste camel milk.
